STRIESOW ‘through threads: between textile and art’ - A look back at a magnificent opening and exhibition

Contemporary art opens up an inexhaustible spectrum of creative expression—a diversity well worth exploring in depth to uncover hidden potential. Fibre art currently stands at the heart of this movement. In this fascinating genre, aesthetic vision and textile craftsmanship merge into a distinct artistic medium. Long unfairly marginalized in Europe as mere handicraft, the textile avantgarde is now undergoing a profound transformation: it is breaking down old conventions and securing its rightful place in major galleries and art fairs worldwide. The Gallery of Things is always on the lookout for visionary artists, and in Ines Striesow-Ganzberger - creator of the label STRIESOW - they have found a true representative of the fibre art genre.

Ines Striesow-Ganzberger, STRIESOW

Ines Striesow-Ganzberger has been creative since her youth, channeling her expressive energy into various forms.

Her chosen medium is embroidery—an ancient technique she reinterprets in a radical way. Using needle and thread, she transforms garments into wearable works of art that blur the boundaries between fashion and art. Under the STRIESOW label, she operates at the intersection of fashion and art—bold, vibrant, and unmistakable. Each piece is unique—not merely as a concept, but as the logical outcome of an unrepeatable process. Every garment embodies hours of meticulous handwork—time that remains visible and cannot be replicated. She views embroidery as painting by other means. Colorful thread takes center stage, as color and contrast are her hallmarks. The needle becomes a brush, the thread becomes paint, and the garment itself becomes the interface between body and art. The result is complex embroidery featuring fluid color gradients reminiscent of rainbows—vibrant and unique. The process follows neither a sketch nor a fixed plan.

STRIESOW works against the smooth and the predictable; every stitch is a permanent decision—no turning back, no reworking, no copying. This is precisely where the tension lies: the intertwining of precision and intuition.

Matinee Reading with Actor Devid Striesow

As part of the exhibition, a matinee reading took place on Sunday, May 10, featuring actor Devid Striesow, known for his work in film, theater, and television. He read from the book Ein Mann der Kunst by Kristof Magnusson, published by Kunstmann Verlag. It was a wonderfully stimulating, entertaining, and humorous reading that was thoroughly enjoyed by both the reader and the audience. Since visitors could view the exhibition starting at 10:00 a.m. and attend the reading at 10:30 a.m., Kernvoll provided organic, vegan catering featuring a delicious breakfast buffet with coffee and tea. It was a thoroughly successful morning—truly a feast for the eyes and ears!

STRIESOW & The Gallery of Things in den Medien

Devid Striesow is a familiar face in film and television, his wife Ines Striesow-Ganzberger is working on her own art in a totally different industry: She is the creative mind behind the label STRIESOW and turning fashion into art through fibre art.
